In a first-time collaboration with The Associated Press, George Stephanopoulos Productions (GSP) and ABC News Studios take you inside one of the world’s most sinister secret societies – the Ku Klux Klan. Former Army sniper, Joe Moore, finds himself juggling two lives – one at home with his wife and kids, and another rising through the ranks of a Northern Florida branch of the KKK. Rooting himself deep within the Klan, learning their covert language and navigating an elaborate hierarchy, Moore eventually becomes the Grand Knighthawk, known as the group’s highest security officer, and de facto hitman.
One night, at a secret Klan cross burning, Moore’s world turns upside down. Three fellow Klansmen approach him with a request – to help them murder a black man. The three men, all current or former Florida Department of Corrections officers, are seeking to fulfill a vendetta against a former Black inmate. What they don’t know is that Joe Moore is actually an undercover source working for the FBI.
Now, through a delicate and dangerous plan, Moore and the FBI must race to stop a modern-day lynching. Told through firsthand accounts and rarely-heard undercover audio and video recordings, Moore’s operation exposes not just the perverseness of white supremacy in the Deep South, but also its troubling intersection with law enforcement.
