“I Know Catherine, The Log Lady” Rolls Out Nationally with Premieres in NYC and LA

April 25, 2025 — Los Angeles, CA — Following a touching Hollywood debut, the documentary I Know Catherine, The Log Lady is set for national rollout, with premieres scheduled in New York City on May 1 at the IFC Center and in Los Angeles on May 9 at the Laemmle Glendale. The film, directed by Richard Green and presented by History of Cool and Next Step Studios, offers an intimate portrait of actress Catherine Coulson—best known as the Log Lady from David Lynch’s cult classic series Twin Peaks.

Coulson’s story is one of profound dedication. Just weeks after Lynch announced the return of Twin Peaks 25 years after its original run, Catherine received a terminal cancer diagnosis. Despite her illness, she was determined to reprise her role as the Log Lady, staying alive long enough to film her final performance—a tribute to her deep commitment to the character, the show, and its fans.

The documentary premiered on April 17 as the Closing Night Film of the American Cinematheque’s This Is Not A Fiction Film Festival in Hollywood. The emotional screening brought together family, friends, and Twin Peaks collaborators, including star Kyle MacLachlan, co-creator Mark Frost, and producer Sabrina S. Sutherland. The event sold out, and critics were moved by the film’s heartfelt tribute. Film Threat praised it as a powerful experience, writing, “You’ll need a hefty supply of tissues... as Coulson completes her circle and spends the moments after chatting with the director she admired and loved wholeheartedly.”

Director Richard Green shared the inspiration behind the film: “When Donna DuBain told me what lengths David Lynch and Catherine’s closest friends went through to get her final performance on screen, I knew there was a great story there. In their own words, Catherine’s friends weave a riveting tale of who she was—and why the show must go on.”

I Know Catherine, The Log Lady is not just a film for Twin Peaks fans, but a deeply human story of resilience, creativity, and the enduring power of performance. The film will have an encore screening in New York on May 4, following its May 1 premiere.

MULHOLLAND DRIVE is a complex and surreal film directed by David Lynch, known for its non-linear narrative and dreamlike sequences. The ending is open to interpretation and has been the subject of much debate among viewers. Here's a breakdown of the ending: Diane's Dream vs. Reality: Throughout the film, there are two main narrative threads: one follows Betty/Diane's dreamlike experiences in Hollywood, and the other delves into Diane's harsh reality. The ending reveals that the majority of the film has been a dream constructed by Diane Selwyn, a failed actress, as a means to escape the guilt and pain of her actions. Betty/Diane's Descent into Madness: Betty, played by Naomi Watts, represents Diane's idealized self—a hopeful and innocent aspiring actress. However, as the film progresses, it becomes clear that Betty's story is unraveling, and her identity begins to merge with Diane's. This culminates in the revelation that Betty is merely a construct of Di...
