Award-winning film studio NEON has officially announced the digital release of Hell of a Summer, the highly anticipated directorial debut from Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard, best known for his breakout role in Stranger Things. The film will be available for digital purchase and rental starting April 22, with a Blu-ray and DVD release following on July 8.
Hell of a Summer marks a bold entry into the horror-comedy genre, combining the nostalgic slasher thrills of Friday the 13th with the absurdist humor of Wet Hot American Summer. Set at a seemingly idyllic summer camp, the story follows Jason Hotchberg (Fred Hechinger), a 24-year-old counselor struggling to connect with his teenage co-workers—unaware that a masked killer is stalking the campgrounds and picking them off one by one.
In addition to Hechinger (Gladiator 2, The Nickel Boys), the film features a standout ensemble cast of up-and-coming talent including Abby Quinn (Knock at the Cabin), D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs), Pardis Saremi (Death and Other Details), and co-directors Bryk and Wolfhard themselves.
Fans purchasing the film will also get exclusive access to a suite of bonus content, including a feature-length commentary with Bryk, Wolfhard, and Hechinger, a behind-the-scenes blooper reel, a “fireside chat,” and more—offering a deeper look into the creative process behind this inventive blend of scares and laughs.
With its unique tone and fresh take on summer camp slashers, Hell of a Summer is poised to become a cult favorite. Whether you're a horror enthusiast, a comedy lover, or simply a fan of Wolfhard and Bryk’s creative evolution, this is one summer experience you won’t want to miss.
