Ep. 171 of War Machine vs. War Horse: The End of the Tour (Almost Famous vs. Crazy Heart)

On this episode we celebrate Labor Day by hitting the road with journalists developing a professional and personal relationship with their subjects. The first film is one of those that is perhaps too famous among cinephiles to talk about with any objectivity or fresh insight, Cameron Crowe’s modern classic ALMOST FAMOUS. Nevertheless guest Rod from The Listening Party podcast helps us do just that by sending the film that won Jeff Bridges an Oscar up to the War Machine Horse slaughter with CRAZY HORSE. But first, regular collaborator and man crush, Dave from the Pop Culture Case Study podcast hits the road for new release THE END OF THE TOUR.

Ep. 161 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Southpaw (Fat City vs. Million Dollar Baby)

On this episode we experience the triumph and tragedy of boxing... from the safe distance of a movie screen. New release SOUTHPAW inspires a trip to the movies with Karly from the podcasts That Pop This Life and Talking Shondaland, and we continue to talk boxing with two older films in FAT CITY challenging Best Picture winner MILLION DOLLAR BABY.

Episode 64 of Pop Culture Case Study - Iron Man and Post Traumatic Growth

In this episode, Dave finally gets to research something positive as he delves into how people can respond positively to trauma.  Paired with this, timed with the new release, Ant-Man, is the original MCU film, Iron Man.  Let's go back in time to before Dave was exhausted with Marvel movies.  Britt again stops by to tell us how she feels about Iron Man and the MCU. Episode 147 of War Machine vs. War Horse: Welcome to Me (Talk Radio vs. The Fisher King)

On this episode we look at films on talk show breakdowns. This comes naturally to us since we already have a failed talk show in this very podcast, so we watch two other gentlemen dealing with their own personal demons in the format. In Oliver Stone's 1988 film adaptation of Eric Bogosian's stage play, Bogosian plays Barry, a rude, contemptuous talk show host who becomes overwhelmed by the hatred that surrounds his program just before it goes national. Barry and TALK RADIO go up against the shock jock Jack, played by Jeff Bridges in the 1991 movie THE FISHER KING, directed by Terry Gilliam and written by Richard Lagravenese. Here, instead of a breakdown on air, we see the damage that can be done off air, as an offhand remarks sends a listener into a restaurant with a gun where he guns down a man's wife and causes the husband (played by Robin Williams) to hide his grief by living in a fantasy world. Heavy stuff with strange doses of comedy which makes for a
