BLACKHAT Blu-ray Review

The Film Michael Mann, known for his gritty crime dramas like "Heat" and "Collateral," takes a bold leap into the cyber-thriller genre with "Blackhat" (2015). While the film's premise promises a gripping exploration of the intersection between cybercrime and international intrigue, its execution leaves much to be desired. The film opens with a cyber-attack on a Chinese nuclear power plant, setting the stage for a high-stakes game of digital cat-and-mouse. Enter Chris Hemsworth as Nicholas Hathaway, a convicted hacker with the skills to match the sophistication of the cyber threat. Mann's decision to cast Hemsworth, primarily known for his action-hero roles, raises eyebrows, but the Australian actor delivers a surprisingly nuanced performance, shedding his Thor persona for a more grounded and realistic portrayal. To bring dynamic vibrancy to the film, which focuses on the true story of a black naval officer who befriends a white naval officer, Messerschmidt used real planes shot in actual locations. Many of the cockpit interiors, particularly the “Bearcat” sequence in the beginning of the film, are entirely authentic. For the combat sequences, the actors were shot in front of an LED volume similar to “The Mandalorian” so the footage could be captured in camera. A big movie shot on a budget much smaller than typical Holl

On this episode we celebrate the ability of computers to bring people closer together, even when one party is uninvited. GUEST: Patrick McGill of Role Play Craft comes in to judge the roller blading contest that is 90s cyber culture as portrayed in film.
