IFC Films and Sapan Studio Acquire North American Rights to Jay Duplass’ “The Baltimorons”

IFC Films and Sapan Studio have officially secured the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to The Baltimorons, the latest film from director Jay Duplass. The acquisition follows the film’s World Premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award in the Narrative Spotlight category. A holiday-themed comedy, The Baltimorons centers on Cliff, a man newly in recovery, who finds himself embarking on a quirky Christmas Eve journey through Baltimore after cracking a tooth. Along the way, he connects with Didi, his emergency dentist. The film is co-written by Duplass and Michael Strassner, who also stars in the film alongside Liz Larsen and Olivia Luccardi, known for her work in It Follows. This project marks Jay Duplass’s return to solo feature directing after more than a decade, and is produced by Duplass Brothers Productions. WATCHER Teaser Starring Maika Monroe and Karl Glusman

 In WATCHER, Julia (Maika Monroe) joins her husband (Karl Glusman) when he relocates to his family’s native Romania for a new job. Having recently abandoned her acting career, she finds herself frequently alone and unoccupied. One night, people-watching from her picture window, she spots a vague figure in an adjacent building, who seems to be looking back at her. Soon after, while alone at a local movie theater, Julia’s sense of being watched intensifies, and she becomes certain she’s being followed — could it be the same unknown neighbor? Meanwhile, a serial killer known as The Spider stalks the city. WATCHER had its world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and most recently screened at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival. WATCHER will open theatrically on June 3rd from IFC Films. Shudder will take the first streaming window of the film.

Dark Summer review

DARK SUMMER  combines elements of films that have come before it but presents them in a way that gives us something new and completely original. Yes, this is a genre film but much like Paul Solets first film GRACE this is a shocking story that puts character and performance first.  Daniel Austins (Keir Gilchrist) obsessive online stalking of his classmate and crush, Mona Wilson (Grace Phipps), leads to his house arrest for the whole summer. Daniel is a modern technology obsessed teenager. So now he will spend his summer vacation with; no cell phone, no Internet, no access to the world beyond his property, and perhaps most devastating of all no Mona .
